Almost every aspect of our modern life is influenced by computing. From the clock that woke you up, to your cell phone, the car you drive, the games you play, and the streaming video you watch, software is an essential component. Computer scientists design, develop, and apply the software that make up these everyday aspects of our lives.

Computer science graduates have incredible and diverse career opportunities. According to code.org there are currently 557,903 open computing jobs in the United States, with only 49,291 computer science students graduated last year. In the state of Utah, there are over 5,000 open jobs, with only 366 computer science graduates.

Making A Difference

Computer scientists make a positive difference in the world. The Association of Computing Machinery notes, “Computing drives innovation in the sciences (such as the human genome projects, AIDS vaccine research, environmental monitoring and protection, just to mention a few), and also in engineering, business, entertainment, and education.”

Innovation & Creativity

Computer scientists develop skills in open-ended problem solving, learning to think creatively – outside of the box –, and team collaboration. As a computer scientist, you have the skills to create solutions to the needs of the world around you, also to pursue innovative approaches to your own interests.
